My name is Denise Nassar Rice,   I am originally from Costa Rica, but have lived in the USA since 1996.  Our family now calls sunny Huntington Beach, California home.

I’m not a chef or a naturopath or a nutritionist, just a regular mom who thrives on feeding my family the healthiest foods available.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN… Growing up in Costa Rica, I was fortunate enough to have been fed REAL foods: fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes.  As an older sister and with a working mom, I learned how to cook at a very young age and with very limited resources, by simply being creative and experimenting with different foods.

When I moved to America, I was blown away by what people here called “food”., but, It wasn’t until after I became a mom, I really started developing a fascination for the healing powers of foods. I began reading everything I could about nutrition and healthy cooking.  After being diagnosed as Gluten Sensitive in 2009, I began to try new gluten-free recipes that I developed and when more and more of my friends began to ask for these recipes, an idea was born; I realized that a lot of people struggle with creating healthy, fast and easy to make meals, so, I decided to create this site to share some of my family’s favorite recipes.

All of my recipes are gluten-free, I also don’t consume soy or processed sugars and for the most part I try to stay away from grains, dairy, and all the things that make me feel bloated, tired or uncomfortable. I only sweeten my dishes with fruit, dates and occasionally raw honey, so, if you are looking for a healthier and  lighter alternative to starchy and sugary treats you have come to the right page.

  2. LOVE your site! thanks for taking the time to create the recipes and to post. I have always been careful about how I feed my family, but it wasn’t enough. My husband went paleo about 2 years ago and it has made a huge difference in his health. I have come to realize that I need this way of life as well as I’m gluten sensitive. I so appreciate all the sites that have recipes with baked goods, I thought I had to give them up, so I’m so excited about your baking posts and the other recipes you post as well. My daughter was bemoaning the fact that I won’t make chicken nuggets any more as my recipe was a favorite, but has bread in it. I was so excited to see yours using almond meal. Thank you Thank you!! I’m still learning to think outside the cooking box!

  3. Your site is a blessing. I have been looking for exactly the kind of recipes your site has. I am fighting a mighty battle of metastisized melanoma. I am trying to change all my eating to healthy and good for me. I’ve already fought breast cancer. Thank you for your dedication and creativity in your site. I’m really going to give this a try.   5. Hi – just wanted to extend a thanks for what you are doing with your receipes. My wife passed away a year ago from cancer – so I’m learning to be a better cook day by day. I like the philosophy behind how you build your receipies – I’m more into the “collecting” rather than the using phase right now – but know where I want to go with my new “hobby”. Keep up the good work.

  6. My daughter and I are both gluten-free ever since being diagnosed with celiac. Because of this, i am always looking for new recipes and ways to make substitutions (we are allergic to multiple other foods & oils).

    One of our local markets (Draeger’s) posted a copy of your “Master List For Sources of Gluten” on their FB page but it is posted as a picture so it is actually too small to read the print. Is there a way to get a copy of this that I can actually print out?

  7. I was born in San Jose in 1944 yet came to San Francisco when I was only 2. I go back “home” almost every year. Most of my huge family of cousins lives in San Ramon… I find myself now at 67 having issues and I think gluten might be the culprit. So happy to have found you on Facebook and now here.   8. I love your blog and glad that I finally found it. I was diagnosed with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and told I was going to be that way the rest of my life. That put me on the path of better nutrition and learned so much about the human body. It took me a little over 2 years but I am symptom and pain free and have so much more energy. This year I will be able to build my own veg garden and looking forward to learning how to can my own fruits and veg. I have started making my own bread and main meals from scratch and it is all so much better in taste and nutrition. I love the recipes and plan on trying them. I just wish I could have found it when you had all those ebooks on sale. You and your family will be in my prayers. Thank you for just being there.

  9. Just found your website and am thrilled! My husband of one year is soy and gluten intolerant and I am a type 2 diabetic with diverticulitis. I can’t wait to try some of your recipes!! Thank you and God bless you!

  11. You have so much great info about different foods & spices . Do you know of something I can take daily to help with my immune system , I have reoccurring sinus infections all of the time & I hate to miss work ? I am a massage therapist and I hate to call out on my clients !

  14. Your depth, width and breadth of information is invaluable. Your research is amazing. There is something to be learned in every one of your daily postings. I’ve tried to live organically and holisically most of my life, but until reading Edible Harmony, had no idea a lemon could be used to make a sink sparkle! Until your posting about Vitamix, I wouldn’t give it a second thought. You prompted me to do more research and now I’m buying one. And I love what you wrote about the importance of bacon (grassfed) in the diet. And, most importantly, what you are writing about GMO’s.
